It wasn't an easy game to watch. We're clearly missing two of Oledski/Holroyd/Gannon/Smith in the forwards, and Bentley didn't help us by taking out Connor and then immediately losing the ball afterwards.
That said, despite the multiple occasions in which we coughed up the ball, we were actually in with a good shout of winning after O'Connor's try. People are complaining about our attack but we had so little ball (a lot of that was our fault, admittedly). There's still too much Rohanball DNA in this side, we've gone back to spending long spells in the game doubling down on errors and penalties and we can't front load defensive effort for long if that keeps happening.
It's difficult to know where Leeds need to go next. Is it just a case of getting a few more bodies back and working harder on mental composure? Or do we start looking at individuals? Or both? I have to say at this point in the season I'd much rather we had given a contract extension to Lisone than Bentley, and even McDonnell. I don't want to turn Bentley into the new scapegoat, probably he's fine in the team as a squad player.
As for the backs we have Sivo to come back in next season. Edgell has shown up as being a bit better than I originally gave him credit for, maybe there's a SL player in there but I'm still not seeing a top 4 winger - Lumb at least seems more potent with ball in hand. I like Newman and Handley lately, but missing that longer-range strike from Handley since he's moved to centre. If Bentley is too small for a forward, Hall is too big and lethargic to be our first choice winger - he's just better (right now) than Edgell/Lumb in bringing the ball back in yardage.
With the missing forwards back nobody will relish facing us in the play offs, but I don't see the right mix of composure and game breaking talent that it might take to win 3 games. To move forward next year I think we'll need to replace Gannon with a 2nd rower who can provide a point of difference, a prop who is as good as the best of Lisone, and a back who can add a bit of stardust. In terms of the latter, I would be having a very close look at the union player (Murphy) at Salford. While he would need some polish we are crying out for a player with his pace and athleticism. If we don't make a move for him he'll be lighting it up at Wigan or Wire before long. Murphy isn't as good as Lachie though, so how does that improve us? He's played two games in a beaten side, and he's a half back by trade. I recall a time, not so many years ago, when having two or three players of real pace and agility, was a really productive thing. He'd be worth a punt to train him up as a six, although we do have Fergus MCcormack coming through who I think will be a generational talent when he breaks into the first team. Last night was a tough enjoyable game, it was always going to be a difficult task with the props out and a young bench (who we didn't use one of!) compounded with Connor going off. We reverted to some daft errors again which is an issue, our defence was very good for the main part though as Wakefield are a really good attacking side. It was a great game, and I think that sometimes gets a bit lost in the pain of defeat. Can't remember the last time I've enjoyed a trip to Wakey (result not withstanding) as much. I really hope the same for young Fergus but listening to Langley the other day, on players impacted by the pandemic, was quite sobering. Think both McCormack brothers will need a lot of physical development before being ready for the 1st team, and to some extent George Brown might have jumped Fergus in the queue. BTW - I thought last night was Miller's best game for the club. No flash stuff, but everything he did was full of speed, aggression and intent. Looked like a real NRL fullback.

I know I’m a miller fanboi but yes thought he was outstanding last night, think he is an NRL standard fullback now to be fair. Hopefully we can tie him down for a few more years. Lovely chap aswell.

| We badly need first 13 replacements for lisone and Gannon and they need to be top class going forward.
We also need a hooker with some brains and excellent service at PTB to get us moving forward quicker.
Sivo will help but Hall is starting to struggle and Watkins is getting older despite the quality he has added.
McDonnell has struggled the last 3-4 games and Bentley often ruins his strong defence with errors or penalties. Could try palasia at back row but then we need more props.
Losing so many in the pack and Ackers not getting in the 13sucks

| mattsrhinos1978: Kendel is either useless or Corrupt, mayswel have wore a Wakey jersey last night
That said, we got what we deserved, stupid teams are always going to come unstuck, and we are as stupid as they come.
Added to a powder puff 2nd row combo, who were both dreadful yet again, and a marquee half who's just as bad, still plenty of work to do with the squad
Speaks volumes when an 18 yearold in his 2nd game, looks the most composed on the team Typical Leeds fan classy response to a defeat. It must be the ref's fault
